Fall 2009 Movies

Well, the summer movie season has officially come to a close. I don't know about the rest of you, but I felt it was pretty lackluster. Highlights for me included The Hangover and Funny People. Interestingly, some of the best movies of the summer -- Julie & Julia, District 9, and Inglourious Basterds -- came out in August, a month more typically reserved as dumping grounds for movies with low expectations. This probably just means I'm getting too old.

The great news is that we're now entering awards season! (Further proof that I'm getting old: awards season is my favorite movie season. Just kidding - even when I was young, I was lame and enjoyed awards season.)

Although I don't recall the specifics very well, I remember last year's fall/winter movie offerings being mostly disappointing. But looking ahead to this year's list, there's a lot I want to see.

A Serious Man
The Road
Where the Wild Things Are
A Christmas Carol
The Box
The Fantastic Mr. Fox
The Lovely Bones

And there are more that I'd be interested in seeing. But the list above is already probably more than I'll be able to make it to the theater for... a fact which surely pleases Netflix.

What movies are you looking forward to in the coming months?

  1. I am so looking forward to Fantastic Mr. Fox. I've always been a huge Roald Dahl fan, and this is one of my favorite books by him. I'll be pretty peeved if they mess with the story line (as they did with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), but I'm psyched that it's been done in stop-mo.

  2. 'Zombieland' and '9' are my must-sees. I will be severely disappointed if we don't make it to the theaters to see these.

I'm also interested in 'The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus' and 'The Maiden Heist' even though its direct-to-video now.
